County Team member Emily Ogilvy reached the final qualifying round for the Ricoh Women's British Open which was played on the New Course at St Andrews, yesterday.
Despite finishing par - birdie - par, it was not enough to salvage what was for Emily a very disappointing score of 87. In blustery conditions on what is considered a tougher test than the Old Course, Emily struggled to find her true form. However, I would like to congratulate her on an exceptional season so far and say how proud we are of her achievements. To get to the final qualifying round is something she should be very proud of. Well done Emily and good luck for the rest of the season.

EVE AND JACQUELINE BOW OUT AT PETERHEAD

Team members Eve Muirhead and Jacqueline Sneddon both failed to progress into the semi finals of the Scottish Under 18 Girls Championship however they should both be very proud of their achievements during the tournament. To make it to the quarter finals is no mean feat.

Eve lost out to Pamela Prestwell 4&2 and Jacqueline Sneddon lost out to Sammy Vass 4&3. The semi finals this afternoon will be Carly Booth (Comrie) v Pamela Pretswell (Bothwell Castle) and Megan Briggs (Kilmacolm) v Sammy Vass (Tain).

Wednesday, July 18, 2007

Congratulations to County team member Jacqueline Sneddon (Alyth) who has also won through to the quarter finals at Peterhead. Jacqueline beat the No 2 qualifier and East of Scotland champion, Jane Turner from Mortonhall by 4 & 2. In the next round, Jacqueline plays Sammy Vass from Tain. It's wonderul to see the girls doing so well. Good luck to Jacqueline and Eve.

EVE GOES THROUGH TO THE QUARTER FINALS

County Team member Eve Muirhead (Pitlochry) has made it through to the quarter finals of the Scottish under 18 girls Championship at Peterhead this afternoon. She defeated number 5 qualifier Lindsay Hunter. Excellent news.

Eve is certainly on form at the moment, this competition follows her win last week at the Highland Open. Well done Eve.
LATEST FROM PETERHEAD

Megan Aird (Strathmore) failed to make it to the second round of the scratch matchplay stages at Peterhead this morning after being defeated by 4th qualifier Pamela Prestwell. Megan did extremely well to qualify into the Scratch section of the championship. With a handicap of 14 she scored a 8 over par 71 in the afternoons qualifying round. Well done Megan.

Unfortunately 2 of our junior members Jacqueline Sneddon (Alyth) and Annabel Niven (Crieff) were drawn against each other which ultimately means one would be knockout of the competition. On the day Jacqueline Sneddon was the stronger player and won the match 4&2 and will continue on this afternoon against 2nd qualifer Jane Turner. Well done Jacqueline and hard lines Annabel, we are very proud of you both.

In the Handicap Section of the tournament Emily Aird was our only representative and unfortunately Emily was knocked out by Fiona Fullerton 3&2. Emily has only just got a handicap this year and is already down to 25. I am sure there will be plenty of other tournaments for this young girl.

Good Luck to all girls and our commiserations to the girls who were knocked out.
NEWS FROM UNDER 18 GIRLS CHAMPIONSHIP

Latest news from Peterhead is that Team Member Eve Muirhead has progressed into the second stages of the competition after defeating Racheal McQueen 9&7. Well done Eve.

Eve will now play the number 5 qualifier Lindsay Hunter in second round. Her tee time is 1.24pm

JAMBOREE AT CRUDEN BAY

At last I have found some time to put together a slide show from the Jamboree weekend at Cruden Bay. A nice mixture of the team, the golf, the caddies, spectators and ofcourse the wonderful views. There are also photos of new Team members Eve Muirhead and Jaqueline Sneddon receiving there 'county badges'. Also a presentation to Captain Janet Griffiths from the team and squad members to thank her for two years of hard work on their behalf.

Commiserations to County team member Emily Ogilvy (Auchterarder) who just failed to overcome Northern Counties team member Laura Walker (Nairn Dunbar) in her second very close match in a row in the final of the North of Scotland competition at Moray Golf Club this afternoon. The match was all square at the turn, after Emily had cancelled out Laura’s early two-hole lead , Laura regained the lead with an eagle 2 at the 10th only for Emily to draw level again with a birdie 4 at the 11th. Emily took the lead for the first time with a par at the 12th but was pulled back to square again by Laura’s birdie 3 at the next. Emily bogeyed the 16th to go one down again but squared the match with a birdie 4 at the 17th. The 18th and the 19th were halved in par 4s before Laura won the 20th and the title with a birdie 4. The quality of the golf played by both girls was exceptional - after 18 holes both Emily and Laura were two under par. In the quarter finals, Emily beat the No 1 qualifier, Kerri Harper (Inverness) at the 21st while Laura was a 4 and 2 winner over Perth & Kinross county champion and County team member Alexandra Bushby (Strathmore). Since Emily's return from the USA she has had an excellent season with some wonderful performances. She reached the final of the Scottish women's championship at Barassie in May and is now considered an international class player.
Emily' s next golfing date is as a member of the Scotland team competing in the European Ladies Team Championships being played at the Castelconturbia Golf Club, Italy, from 10 to 14 July.
Fellow County team member Roseanne Niven (Crieff) is also part of the Scotland team - best wishes and good luck to them both.

    NORTH OF SCOTLAND RESULTS

Team Members Emily Ogilvy and Alexandra Bushby had mixed fortunes this morning at Lossiemouth.

County Champion Alexandra played her heart out but was beaten by Northern Counties Team member Laura Walker 4&2. Alex's perfomance over the last few days has been excellent and we are very proud of her achievments.

Emily Ogivly (pictured above)after playing some outstanding golf, has made it into the Finals but had to work her socks off to beat number one seed Kerri Harper at the 21st hole. Emily, home after 5 years in the states, has produced some wonderful golf since her return and we hope, that after this afternoons play, we will see Emily's name on the trophy.

Good luck Emily from us all.

Scores so far (that I am aware of) is that county team members Emily Ogilvy, Alex Bushby and Jacqueline Sneddon have returned scores of 75, 81 and 84 respectively. Emily broke the par of the course which is 76. Excellent scoring. So far it would appear that the cut off will be 85. Best score posted so far is Northern County player Kerri Harper with a 6 under par 70.

Will try to keep you posted!
