County Coaching Starts in Earnest

10 members of the P&K Coaching Senior Squad met up ion freezing conditions last Sunday to begin a series of coaching sessions.
The squad was originally organised to play 9 holes of golf with the professionals however freezing conditions and sleet put paid to this and the session changed to individual coaching from the pro's which involved taking video of each player and trying iron out any problems or bad habits formed over the previous season! This gives the girls all winter then to work on the problem areas.
More coaching sessions have been arranged for the new year.
Above are some photos taken on the day.

Sally does us proud at Gleneagles

Sally Kettlewell (Dunblane) was P&K's only qualifier for the Bank of Scotland Junior Masters Final which was held over the Queens Course at Gleneagles yesterday. Sally, handicap 7, tied 3rd with 32 points however following a countback ended 4th. Sally's success is even greater considering the standard of competitors. Rachael Livingstone, who plays off five and gained her first Scotland cap in the girls' home internationals at Strathaven in August, won the girls' title with the very good total of 40pt. In second place was Katy McNicoll, a semi finalist in the North of Scotland held over Strathmore this year. Also included in the field was Rebbeca Wilson, Kelsey MacDonald and Michele Thomson.

Our congratulations go to Sally, what an end to what has been a super season for her.

County Team member Fiona Ramsay (Crieff) holed an ace at the 4th hole at Crieff on Sunday 8th August. Crieff were playing a scratch league match against Pitlochry when Fiona notched her 3rd hole in one.

Scotland's hopes dashed

Scotland failed to win any of the afternoon foursomes at Strathaven yesterday and finished last with no points. England were defeated by Wales however this did not stop them retaining the title for the 5th time in a row. England, Ireland and Wales all finished with two wins out of three. The tie-breaker was individual games won and England's 17 1/2pt gave them first place ahead of the Irish (15pt) and Wales (14pt).

LUCY GILMORE HAS AN ACE AT GLENISLA

At the last junior event of the P&K calendar your young junior Lucy Gilmore (strathmore) playing off a handicap of 19 had a hole in one at the 14th hole at Glenisla. Modest Lucy confused the organisers by not telling them of her success before handing in her card.
We all send our congratulations to Lucy and hope this is the first of many in her golfing career.

I will post the other scores as soon as I receive them.
Scotland trail after the morning singles

Scotland are trailing 4-2 after the morning singles with only Rachael Livingstone and Gemma Webster winning their matches. Unfortunatley Carly lost 2&1 to Fiona Carroll. This means that Scotland must win all three foursome matches to avoid the wooden spoon.
This afternoon pairings have been announced as Gemma Webster & Krystal Caithness, Kylie Walker & Rachael Livingstone and Clare-Marie & Sally Watson.

England has convincing win

Scotland suffered a crashing defeat by England yesterday when the salvaged only 1 1/2 points out of the 9 available. Kylie Walker was the only player to win a singles match in the morning and Krystal Caithness and Gemma Webster managed to hold the English pairing to a squared match. England therefore won on the day 7 1/2 - 1 1/2. Ireland, although trailing Wales 4-2 after the morning singles made a clean sweep of the foursomes to win overall 5-4, thus leaving Scotland the only team not to win a point. The scoring stands at England 2pts, Ireland 1pt, Wales 1pt, Scotland 0pt.Final matches: Scotland v Ireland, Wales v England.
The singles are once again being played in the morning with Carly Booth our at 08.50 against Fiona Carroll. The other Scottish player this morning are Krystal Caithness, Clare-Marie Carlton, Rachael Livingstone, Kylie Walker and Gemma Webster.

We wish them all the very best of luck today.

Krystal Caithness lost to Breanne Loucks 2&1, Kylie Walker lost to Lydia Hall by 2 holes, Sally Watson lost to Donna Jones 3&2 and Claire-Marie Carlton lost to Lucy Gould 2&1.
England were victorious over Ireland winning the morning foursomes 2&1 and the afternoon singles 4-2 making the overall win 6-3.

Scotland meet the tournament favorites England today and Wales versus Ireland. The singles will be played in the morning in case rain stops play later in the day. The good news is Roseanne Niven has been named as a player today therefore hopefully she is feeling better. Carly has also been selected to play this morning. Roseanne is playing against Kiran Matharu and Carly against Katrina Holford. We wish them both the very best of luck.

Afternoon Singles, Team Announced

The Scottish players for this afternoon have been announced as Krystal Caithness, Gemman Webster, Kylie Walker, Carly Booth, Sally Watson and Clare-Marie Carlton. As Roseanne has not been named I can only assume that she has been deemed unfit for play. We all send our best wishes to Roseanne for a speedy recovery and wish Carly all the very best for this afternoon. Her tee time is 15.00.

Foursome Results from Strathaven

Due to surface water on the greens play was suspended to allow the greens to be cleared therefore the results were late in getting through. Carly and her partner Clare-Marie Carlton unfortunately lost to Kim Boulden and Donna Jones however it is not all bad news as the other two pairings of Gemma Webster & Krystle Caithness and Sally Watson & Kylie Walker won their matches 2holes up and 1 up respectively. Giving a 2-1 lead into the singles.
England also have a 2-1 lead over Ireland.
If play in able to commence , a two tee start will begin at 1410hrs.
I still have no news as to how Roseanne is or if she is playing. I will try to keep you up to date as much as possible. If anyone has any news please EMail me on i-d.insurance@btconnect.com
Bad Weather Cancels County Finals for SLGA Centenary

Roseanne and Carly representing Scotland at Strathaven

Roseanne Niven our County Champion and Carly Booth the runner up are representing Scotland at Strathaven from today in the under 18 Girls Home International Matches. However Roseanne may have to withdraw due to illness. I have not heard yet whether she has been advised by the doctor to withdraw or not however the pairings have been announced for todays morning foursomes matches minus Roseanne. Carly is teamed with Clare-Marie Carlton as the second pairing in todays match against Wales. England and Ireland are the other matches.
Singles will be played this afternoon and I will let you know the results as soon as possible and how Roseanne is as soon as I hear.

The winning Scottish team. Posted by Hello
Vets make it three in a row

Sorry I haven't kept the story up to date but unknown to me, my husband whisked me away for a few days to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary!
However whilst I was away Scotland made it three in a row with an unbeaten record at Strathmore winning all three games 5-4 against South, 5-4 Midlands and a final day of 6-3 against North. The finals set of matches being singles only due to a 4 hour delay on Wednesday due to bad weather.
The player of the tournament was Liz Campbell with three wins and two halved matches for 4 points out of a possible 5.
Well done Scotland.

The Scottish Team playing at Strathmore Golf Centre this week Posted by Hello
Scotland win over South

Scotland began their defense of the Miller Stirling Trophy with a 5-4 win over what on paper seems like their main rivals. After a disappointing start in the morning foursomes where south had a 2-1 victory the team pulled out the stops in the singles with good wins by Pamela Williamson (Baberton), Moira Thomson (North Berwick) and Liz Campbell (Torwoodlee).Chris Stirling beat Cecilia Kenny (Dunblane New) 5 and 4, and Liz McCombie winning by 5 and 3 over Karen Ballantyne (Craigmillar Park), all hope lay in the final match. Noreen Fenton (Merchants of Edinburgh) eventually secured a 5-4 win for captain Joan Marshall's squad by beating Belinda Silver 2 and 1.
In the other opening-day match, Midlands beat North 5-4 after sharing the foursomes 1 1/2-1 1/2 and taking the singles 3 1/2-2 1/2.

Unfortunately due to heavy rain, this mornings foursomes were called in off the course however they are resuming play at 1.45 and playing foursomes this afternoon and two lots of singles tomorrow.

Roseanne puts up a great show at the Girls Championship

Roseanne Niven played great golf today but narrowly missed out on progressing further when she was beaten by Scottish Team mate Kyrstal Caithness by one hole. Roseanne was 3 down at one point but won both the 15th and 16th (with a birdie) and Krystal had to get up and down at the 17th to halve the hole.

As always Roseanne played well and did P&K proud. Well done.

CARLY OUT OF THE BP SCOTTISH GIRLS CHAMPIONSHIP

Disappointment for Carly Booth as she has been knocked out of the BP Scottish Girls Championship by title holder Kelly Brotherton. Carly met Kelly last year and the match went to the 25th hole however this year Kelly won 2 & 1. Kelly now goes on to meet Michelle Thomson in the quarters. However our hopes are not dashed as Roseanne our current P&K County Champion has won through to the quarter finals after a tough fight against Amanda Edwards and winning her match on the last green.
Roseanne now goes head to head with her Scottish Team mate Krystal Caithness. Krystal is the current holder of the Scottish under 16 which Roseanne has also held. This should prove to be a great match with two very talented young golfers. We all wish Roseanne the very best of luck and I will try to keep you posted of the outcome.
QUARTER-FINALS LINE-UP THURSDAY MORNING
Kelly Brotherton v Michele Thomson
Kylie Walker v Sally Watson
Rachael Livingstone v Sarah Herd
Krystle Caithness v Roseanne Niven.
